Ah, to name a king

In the beginning there was no King. Thus, in an effort to name a king, four forces gathered. The only solution, to take the King's Hill, to take the King's Crown, to take it all. The only method, fire. The only target, everybody else. The four players strong enough not to pussy out with some lame excuse, John with Tau, Calavin with 'Nids, Chris with Sisters, and Allan with Chaos Space Marines. Who will be victorious? Who will become king? Who will rule for all time(until next week)?
Read on, if you dare!(no really, its really long)

Turn 1:
Tau: The Tau's first turn was rather dramatic, with their remote drone network marking everything in the 'nid deployment zone, followed by a rain of seeker missiles, which wounded 3 out of the 5 targets. To follow this up, John's area denial node destroyed the sisters Exorcist Engine from across the board and over the hill. Not to play favorites, he also stunned a Thousand Sons rhino.
Chaos Space Marines: The only excitement from the marines was a raging dreadnought that destroyed a Piranha.
Sisters of Battle: Chris dropped his orbital bombardment on the Tau in retaliation for his engine, stunning the node, killing 8 warriors and a sniper drone controller which removed the entire unit. And that was before he even started moving.
Tyranid In an incredibly exciting end to the turn, they killed some flagellants.

Turn 2
Tau: In a flurry of dust and debris, a Tau Commander appears in the Tau deployment zone, while across the board, a unit of crisis suits appear deep in the Sisters domain. Sliding in along the 'nid/Tau board edge comes a hammerhead, but it was the broadsides that brought the pain, immobilising a defiler well out of combat range.
CSM: With a flash of light from the warp, a unit of terminators and a unit of obliterators use the Thousand Sons' icons to appear beside the advancing rhinos. The immobilised defiler takes out its frustration on some firewarriors, killing 5. The resulting landslide does nothing but rumble. After disgorging its troops, the stunned rhino guns its engines and rams the Tau devilfish, leaving a terrible scratch. The terminators unleash their bolters on the Sisters of Repentia, killing 7, a priest, and the mistress. The dreadnought rages and destroys Piranha.
Sisters: A unit of celestines swoops down, deep in the Chaos zone, intent on bringing it to the accursed traitors. The Retributors step out of their transport, take aim, and unleash their heavy bolters on the Crisis team threatening their zone, killing the marker and shield drones. The remaining Sisters of Repentia assault the mobile Defiler. In a swirling of flash of blades and swords, screams and roars, the Defiler alone stands, marked only with new gore. A Pentant engine charges the Tyranid Warrior brood, while the Flagellants charge the Tyranid Guard, exchanging a Flagellant for a wound on the guard.
Tyranid: Do a lot more this turn than last, the Tyranids start by outflanking Genestealers to either side of the table. The free unit of Guard shake the Hammerhead, despite its disruption field. The Hive Tyrant shoots than charges the Inquisitor and his retinue, leaving only the Inquisitor and a surgeon in combat. The last of the Flagellants finish the guard, while the nearby Carnifex charges and shreds the Penitent engine. Finally the Genestealers on the Sisters' flank charge the Crisis team, wounding 1.

Turn 3
Tau: Outflanking a Stealth team behind the Genestealers threatening his zone, the Tau bring more than enough burst cannons to bare to remove the threat from their zone. Setting the marker asset on the edge of sister territory, the Tau set up both the Sisters and the Chaos scum for another salvo of seeker missiles. This time shooting 6 missiles, but doing less damage, but still destroying an Immolater and immobilising the other Defiler. The Broadsides turn their guns on the impotent ramming rhino, leaving it a smoldering wreck. The Firewarriors rifle down 3 of the Thousand Sons who disembarked the turn before. The Firewarriors on the objective take vengeance on the Tyranid Gaurd, killing 1 and causing the other to flee off the table. The Crisis team manages to hold another turn against the Genestealers.
CSM: Another portal to the warp opens and out steps the dreaded Daemon Prince. A defiler unleashes his battle cannon on the stealths, only killing a single suit, but unleashing a slide of rock that buries another. The Thousand Sons remove the Pathfinders from the table, while the another unit fires upon the Firewarriors on the objective causing them to flee, though they later rally. The last unit of Thousand Sons opened fire upon the Assassin high in the ruins, watching his punctured corpse fall to the ground. The Sorcerer manages to gift the Seraphim's leader with chaos, locking the unit in combat with the resulting spawn. The Terminators finish the turn by assaulting the Seraphim fighting the spawn from their leader, killing them all before the spawn can act.
Sisters: After little movement and almost no shooting the Sisters leap into assault. A Penitent Engine charges the Thousand Sons rhino, looking to reach the squad that finished the assassin. The Flagellants join the combat between the Tyranid Warrior and the Penitent Engine, and then leave the table, though the Engine does take final revenge slaying the last Warriors.
Tyranids: The ground rumbles as a Trygon bursts from the ground, followed a 2 swarms of Ravener, as with a loud thud a Spore Pod drops nearby disgorging hormagaunts, who fire upon a Thousand Sons unit. The Hive Tyrant shoots the Daemon prince, causing 3 wounds, then charges and receives 2 wounds in return. One unit of Raveners charge the Chaos Terminators, while the other charges the Obliterators.

Turn 4
Tau: Fires upon the closest Thousand Sons, leaving only the Aspiring Sorcerer, who turns and flees. The commander unleashes his airburst fragmentation launcher into the terminators, managing to kill 1. The area denial node turns on the defiler, removing its gun, leaving it to thrash its arms in impotent rage. The Hammerhead opened up on the Trygon, causing a single wound.
CSM: One Obliterator dies to the Ravenors scything talons, but the other is able to bring his power fist to bare, killing the remaining vermin. The Terminators charge into the Trygon, killing it at the cost of 2 brothers. The Daemon Prince and the Hive Tyrant rain blows upon each other, when the spray of blood and ichor subsides, neither is left standing, to the lamentations of the penitent engine waiting to take the winner.
Sisters: Retributors kill the Zoanthrope that dropped last turn, and the Land Raider kills the Spore it rode in on. A Penitent Engine charges the Terminators, killing 1, while proving lightning claws are not so good against armour.
'Nids: Killed the lesser Daemons that had stepped from the warp with gaunt fire, and FINALLY, after 5 rounds of combat, took the last Crisis Suit to the ground.

Turn 5
Tau: Sniper Drones manage to stun the Chaos Dread that was getting dangerously close to the Tau zone. Area Denial Node unleashes a submunition blast that kills all 11 gaunts around the Tervigon, though failing to hurt the Tervigon or its pod. The firewarriors concentrate fire to immobilise the rhino with 2 Thousand Sons and an Aspiring Sorceror inside, which had moved onto the objective, making it a mini-bunker for the remainder of the game.
CSM: Killed all the remaining gaunts near on the objective through combined fire of an Obliterator and the loose squad of Thousand Sons.
Sisters: Retributers finished of the last genestealers, while the Landraider destroyed the gun toting Defiler. Saint Celestine swooped down upon the objective, throwing her Vortext Grenade, and commending the Tervigon to the warp. Nearby an orbital drop scatters off the hill and the targeted firewarriors and into both the Devilfish and the Hammerhead. The resulting explosion saw firewarriors reduced to ash from all around.
'Nids: With the only remaining asset left being a single spore pod, the 'Nids moved straight to the roll for end of game.

Turn 6
Nothing, it ended after 5.

Results
With the game ending on turn 5, the game ended a draw. The Sisters' had Saint Celestine and some Soritas both on the objective, though the vortex grenade had winked out. The Tau had a unit of Firewarriors cowering on the corner of the objective, and Chaos held with some Thousand Sons wisely holding inside their rhino turned bunker. Had a sixth turn come the fire fight would have been tremendous, as both Chaos and Tau had troops on the move toward the objective, and the Sisters sitting with a full Soritas squad and a Saint waiting for them.

In the end a King could not be crowned.

  1. OK, so is the King going to post his army list or what? That's part of the price of holding the hill - we all get to see what you've got so we can knock it down. See you all Sunday!

  2. I can do that. I will pry do it as a separate post after the battle report. Unfortunately, the is no list to post, as there has yet to be King crowned.
